Coco Austin stands by her decision to bathe her 6-year-old daughter, Chanel, in the kitchen sink.
“Everything I do, people have got to say something about it,” Austin told Page Six at Fandom’s party at HK Hall in NYC Tuesday. “But now it’s kinda weird to other people. Like, really? If you are a mom you have bathed your child in the sink.”
Austin, 43, added that the unique bathing routine was just “a small blip” in a longer TikTok video.
She explained, “I was going to the fashion show and they took that one second and made that one little thing bigger than anything else.”
The model faced backlash last month for showing the tot, whom she shares with husband Ice-T, taking a bath in the kitchen sink.
“People, you gotta know by now that I’m an unconventional mother,” she defended shortly after negative comments started rolling in. “I do what works and is easier on me. Some may want to take some pointers rather than rag on me!”
The 64-year-old rapper also stood up for Austin — who is no stranger to being mom-shamed online — and told us he has come to “expect” the negativity on social media.
He told us: “I think with social media, if you put it out there you have to expect comments. So it will be positive or it will be negative. So the only way not to have them comment about your child is don’t post.”
However, the couple — who has been married for nearly 22 years — chooses not to take strangers’ comments to heart.
“The key is you cannot give a f–k about other people’s opinions, or you will never get anywhere in life.” the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star said.
Austin has been criticized in the past for wearing skimpy clothing around her daughter, allowing the youngster to get French tip nails and getting upset when Chanel started school last month. But the model owns her self-described “suffocating” nature.
“Before she was born I would say, ‘You know what? I’m going to build a cage and she’s gonna stay in that cage and I’m gonna be one of those parents,'” she quipped. “I’m like that parent where I’m very suffocating. I’m very overpowering and I might not show it in pictures and stuff, but I watch everything that she does.”
